Job summary

County of Los Angeles seeks a Senior Data Scientist for the Department of Economic Opportunity to design predictive models and leverage data across housing, employment, and program data to drive outcomes for homeless populations in LA County.

This role provides technical leadership, collaborates with programs such as WIOA and LA:RISE, and focuses on data-driven strategy, performance measurement, and scalable analytics with hybrid telework options.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience leading complex data science projects.
• Bachelor’s degree with 12 semester or 18 quarter units of coursework in data science, predictive analytics, quantitative research methods, or statistical analysis -AND- Six (6) years of experience.
• Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a field of applied research such Data Science, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Analytics, Psychology, or Public Health may substitute for up to two (2) years of experience.

Responsibilities

• Leads complex data science projects from conception through implementation.
• Provides technical oversight to small teams of Data Scientists and Predictive Data Analysts.
• Documents business requirements and frames problems for data science products.
• Collaborates to identify data sources across internal and external datasets.
• Develops predictive scoring, automated flagging systems, and production analytics tools.
