Job summary

Delta Dental of Michigan is seeking a Senior Data Science Practitioner to lead domain-specific analytical data model development using SQL and dbt, supported by Excel and analytics languages. The role requires strong understanding of insurance data and data pipeline design.

You will source data from multiple sources, build scalable data models, and collaborate with internal teams to deliver actionable insights for business decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Clinical or Core Sciences, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field; master’s in data science, business analytics, analytics engineering, health informatics or related field preferred.
• Five years of experience with data, with analytical data modeling methods applied to domain-specific subject matter.
• Advanced knowledge of insurance business, claims processing systems, and business applications; experience with data modeling tools including SQL, dbt, and MS Excel.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team; experience with SAS, R, or Python preferred; knowledge of version control and data testing.

Responsibilities

• Leads domain-specific analytical data model development using SQL and dbt, supported by MS Excel and other data analysis languages and frameworks.
• Builds governed, reusable analytical data models through dimensional modeling and software engineering practices.
• Sources data and applies scalable data modeling to address complex business challenges.
• Leads and develops all aspects of domain research, analysis, and shares findings with senior team members and internal stakeholders.
• Acts as consultant and liaison to internal and external clients on reporting, analytics, or research issues.
• Maintains and develops departmental data models and dbt pipelines to transform, store, and organize data; troubleshoots pipelines and databases.
• Collects, queries, manipulates, and validates large datasets from internal and external sources; assesses data quality and impact on downstream analytics.
