About the Role

iCapital's AI team is transforming the investment management industry by using the latest advancements in Artificial Intelligence. The Principal Data Scientist will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying advanced machine learning models that solve some of the most challenging problems in the investment management industry. This individual will be a key leader in a highly collaborative environment that includes software engineers, data engineers, product managers, and business leaders. The ideal candidate will be able to learn, innovate, and build new technology that impacts an entire industry while getting exposure to the latest technologies and working for a market leading firm.

Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, train, test, and deploy advanced machine learning models as part of a leading team of engineers and data scientists.
2. Partner with professionals throughout the company to identify opportunities to use AI to drive transformational change and translate needs into technical solutions.
3. Analyze data using visualization, statistical modeling, and machine learning to formulate and test hypotheses and identify patterns for model design.
4. Provide technical leadership for team members in the use of machine learning and the development and deployment of large-scale machine learning models.
5. Build and maintain RESTful APIs using Python and FastAPI.
6. Contribute to the improvement of Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) pipelines and procedures to ensure efficiency, scalability, and maintainability.
7. Ensure the reliability, robustness, and scalability of machine learning models in production environments.
8. Communicate with stakeholders, both technical and non-technical, and drive adoption of AI throughout the organization.
9. Learn from peers, industry conferences, papers, and classes to increase advanced AI knowledge.

Qualifications

1. 5+ years of experience in design, development, training, and deployment of machine learning models as a Machine Learning Engineer or Data Scientist.
2. Advanced degree in quantitative discipline such as computer science, mathematics, economics, engineering, or data science.
3. Deep understanding of the mathematics of and principles underlying machine learning.
4. Self-starter with a high level of maturity able to proactively solve problems, communicate with partners, and motivate others to achieve their best performance.
5. Proficiency in Python with experience that includes the use of TensorFlow or PyTorch and scikit-learn.
6. Experience building APIs and infrastructure for large scale machine learning applications using AWS.
7. Experience working with Large Language Models, such as GPT-4, Llama 3, and other commercial or open-source models.
8. Knowledge of NLP techniques, including text data preprocessing (tokenization, stemming, and text normalization, etc.) and information extraction (summarization, and question answering).
9. Experience with software development best practices, including source control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, testing, and documentation.
10. Familiar with database integration principles and practices, including SQL and NoSQL databases and data warehouse solutions (such as Snowflake).
11. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
12. Excellent communication skills and the ability to effectively articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
13. Highly collaborative approach to problem solving and product development.
14. Strong drive to innovate and contribute to a highly collaborative, team-oriented culture.

Benefits

The base salary range for this role is $130,000 to $170,000. iCapital offers a compensation package which includes salary, equity for all full-time employees, and an annual performance bonus. Employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes an employer matched retirement plan, generously subsidized healthcare with 100% employer paid dental, vision, telemedicine, and virtual mental health counseling, parental leave, and unlimited paid time off (PTO).
