Job summary

Target in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to boost record-based decision making and advance guest analytics. You will develop in-house analytics and treat data as a product, guiding AI/ML initiatives across channels and enterprise datasets.

You will design predictive and prescriptive models, build dashboards, and collaborate with product teams to measure feature success and drive commercial performance.

Qualifications

• MS in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience.
• Three+ years of experience designing and deploying algorithms in a production environment.
• Strong skill set in SQL, Python, R, Spark, Hive, and data visualization tools.
• Demonstrated knowledge of technical and analytical approaches, including predictive modeling.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak to both business and technical audiences and translate concepts between them.
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and open-ended problems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a champion of a data-driven culture with Product, Commercial, and Engineering to help them make use of insights that drive high-impact projects.
• Build statistical models to drive efficient analysis and present metrics on version performance.
• Execute solutions to business problems using analytical, data mining, forecasting, optimization tools, and system modeling techniques.
• Analyze and discover insights in our Hadoop environment, partner with product leaders to design in-product experiments, evaluate effects, and provide strategic recommendations.
• Translate analysis into compelling narratives to influence key stakeholders across the organization.
• Work closely with Product Managers and business partners to identify gaps through comprehensive data analysis and advance analytics maturity (predictive & prescriptive) in key product areas.
• Define data requirements for measuring success of new features or enterprise initiatives, outline KPIs, and collaborate with engineering on monitoring and instrumentation.
• Optimize queries and data usage for large datasets.
• Build self-service dashboards using a mix of analytical and visualization techniques to generate actionable insights that influence business decisions.
• Democratize data and insights to empower partners to make better decisions faster.
