ABOUT THE ROLE

Under the direction of the Director of Data Science Analytics and aligned with department and firmwide objectives, and priorities, the Senior Data Scientist plays an active role in and contributes to improving firm strategy, delivery of legal services, and operations using data science tools and techniques. Partners with the Director to develop and gain buy-in for the program strategy, identifying the individuals, resources, and tools necessary to accomplish the strategy.

Data Science Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Director of Data Science Analytics in leading the data science function for the firm, including strategy, management, and operations.
• Develop, maintain, and utilize the firms data, data integrations, and data science tools to help produce business insights and to support project initiatives.
• Build, maintain and enhance the firms information resources to meet current and anticipated needs, including supporting the firms master data model and data storage infrastructure.
• Work in coordination with the firms Information Governance and Security teams to ensure alignment with data validity, use, privacy, and security.
• Work in coordination with the firms technology teams to identify, implement, and maintain relevant technologies and data artifacts (warehouses, databases, etc.).
• Develop predictive / explanatory models, exploratory data applications, and rapid prototypes for a wide variety of use cases and functions (matter management, knowledge management, HR, finance / billing, business development, etc.), presenting results to key stakeholders, and turning into production applications where appropriate.

ABOUT YOU

• Relevant masters degree in a related field (computer science, information management, etc.) preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience applying data science in one or more industries, with a demonstrated record of successful outcomes.
• Hands on expertise with data management tools and methods : fluent in Python, R, and T-SQL.
• Experience with Azure Cognitive Services, AWS, Tableau, Power BI, And Posit Workbench / Posit Connect a plus.
• Technical experience conceiving, building, and launching decision support tools helpful.
• Experience with machine learning and AI; reputation as a thought leader in the data science / machine learning / Artificial Intelligence community a plus.
• Experience working in the legal profession, with a strong peer and vendor network.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex ideas succinctly and clearly and to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way.
• Strong technical aptitude and understanding, including ability to quickly learn new applications; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to quickly assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions, including ability to draw clear conclusions from a diverse collection of data.
• A highly proactive, solution-oriented approach to work and interactions.

Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus, overtime as applicable, health / welfare benefits, retirement contributions, paid holidays, and PTO. The range displayed is specifically for positions performed in those cities / states and may vary based on factors including but not limited to the following : local market data and ranges; an applicants skills and prior relevant experience; and certain degrees, licensing, and certifications. New York, San Francisco, Palo Alto salary range : $140k to $195k

Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Washington, D.C. salary range : $133k to $186k
