Job description

Select how often (in days) to receive an alert:

QuantumScape developed the industry’s first anode-less cell design, which delivers high energy density while lowering material costs and simplifying manufacturing. Our innovative battery cell technology can store energy more efficiently and reliably than today’s lithium-ion batteries.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a data science background to support our Film Specification R&D team. As a team member, you will help identify performance-limiting defect modes in our solid-state separator and define specifications to further improve our product performance and reliability. This position is an exciting multi-functional role that sits at the intersection of materials, manufacturing, and data science!

In this role, you will:
  • Analyze correlations between upstream metrology of the ceramic separator and cell test data. Identify metrics most predictive of electrical performance.
  • Collaborate with metrology engineers to generate new metrics and/or machine learning models to capture defect modes from 2D/3D images.
  • Continuously report performance of existing film specifications and suggest opportunities for spec tightening or loosening.
  • Communicate findings with audiences through clear and concise reports, presentations and data visualizations
  • MS degree with 3+ years experience in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Math, Applied Physics or related area, or BS degree with 5+ years experience
  • 3+ years of Data or Machine learning Science experience working on highly complex problems in a dynamic setting
  • Technical expertise and in-depth knowledge in one or more of the following Data Science techniques: regression analysis, classification modeling, cluster analysis, predictive analytics, deep learning and CNNs, etc.
  • Strong programming skills, especially in Python, with 3+ years of relevant experience in a programming intensive role
  • Solid foundation in statistics
Highly desired:
  • Experience in development of engineering or manufacturing specifications
  • Fundamental knowledge of battery electrochemistries and failure mechanisms
  • Familiarity with battery test data and metrics
  • Understanding of Statistic Process Control and experience with Six Sigma
Skills & Abilities:
  • You have a curious, hands‑on approach to problem solving.
  • You are a strong communicator and love working in a fast-paced, team setting.
  • Your time‑management skills allow you to independently balance multiple high‑impact efforts.
  • You apply your resourcefulness to develop new skills, and you’re not shy about asking questions.
  • You share a real passion for our mission.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range is $155k-180k, however, a final rate will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background.
