Job summary

Selective Insurance seeks a Data Protection Specialist to lead the data protection strategy across classification, labeling, encryption, and governance in hybrid environments. You will partner with IT, privacy, legal, and business stakeholders to shape roadmaps and standards that reduce risk and improve data handling maturity.

The role emphasizes senior-level judgment, cross-functional influence, and practical balance of strategic leadership with technical depth.

Qualifications

• Advanced experience designing and implementing enterprise data protection capabilities including DSPM, data classification, labeling, DLP, encryption, and lifecycle controls.
• Strong expertise with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft 365 Information Protection, and Azure data security services.
• Deep understanding of data lifecycle management, retention, and governance for sensitive information.
• Ability to translate data exposure risks into practical control strategies, architecture guidance, and measurable improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead enterprise data protection strategy across classification, labeling, DLP, encryption, retention, and lifecycle governance in hybrid environments.
• Define and mature data protection standards, reference architectures, and roadmaps aligned to business priorities and risk reduction goals.
• Serve as senior SME for data protection across Microsoft 365, Azure, on-premises platforms, and comparable environments.
• Lead evaluation, selection, and integration of data protection technologies (DSPM, information protection, DLP) across platforms.
• Promote least-privilege and access governance for sensitive data access and oversight.
• Establish metrics and reporting to measure control effectiveness and program maturity.
• Partner with security, privacy, legal, governance, IT, and business to improve data handling practices.
