Job summary

JS Perkins Consulting (JSPC) seeks a Business Analyst to sit between the mission and the pipeline on a major Defense Health Agency data modernization effort. The role involves translating clinical, operational, and readiness questions into source-to-target mappings and business rules, then profiling sources with SQL to validate data before final requirements are set.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of business analysis, data analysis, or data product experience supporting analytics, reporting, or data integration.
• Strong hands-on SQL with ability to write, debug, and optimize complex queries.
• Experience translating business or mission requirements into technical data requirements.

Responsibilities

• Elicit and document data requirements from functional subject matter experts across clinical, operational, financial, and readiness domains.
• Translate business questions into technical data requirements, including source-to-target mappings and business rules.
• Profile source systems directly using SQL to assess data availability, completeness, and fitness for the intended use before requirements are finalized.
• Define data quality rules and validation criteria with the engineering team, and test delivered datasets against them.
• Build and maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries, data product documentation, and metadata artifacts for enterprise catalogs.
• Perform hands-on data analysis and technical validation, including writing transformation queries and supporting light pipeline development in Databricks.
• Support user acceptance testing and work directly with mission users to confirm data products meet needs before release.
• Write and refine user stories, manage requirements backlog, and participate in agile ceremonies with pipeline and product teams.
