Job summary

Unity in Mountain View is seeking a Staff Engineer, Data Platform to design and scale the data infrastructure powering Ads and Unity Commons. You will own scalable platform services and partner with multiple teams to deliver high-throughput data pipelines.

This senior IC role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, backend engineering, and platform architecture, with hands-on leadership and a bias for building reusable, reliable solutions.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or data platforms.
• Strong backend and systems engineering skills, including service design and production operations.
• Deep understanding of scalability, reliability, fault tolerance, and performance.
• Experience building shared platforms or self-service infrastructure for multiple teams.
• Ability to understand complex systems and lead pragmatic improvements.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, build, and evolution of scalable platform services and self-service tooling.
• Work across distributed systems, data pipelines, cloud infra, observability, and developer experience.
• Partner with Ads, infrastructure, data, and product teams to deliver reusable solutions.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership for cross-functional initiatives.
• Contribute to platform patterns, standards, and best practices.
