Job summary

Block, Inc. is hiring an experienced software engineer to own our data platform, enabling trusted data across teams at scale. You will design and operate data warehousing, governance, and BI tooling, while building Python services and tooling for data products.

You will collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and product teams to implement scalable, observable workflows and uphold strong governance. Remote-friendly, global role with opportunities to mentor and set technical direction.

Qualifications

• Senior software engineer with track record of designing, shipping, and operating production systems.
• Strong Python programming and data platform experience.
• Experience collaborating with data practitioners and leading across teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core data-platform capabilities including data warehousing, orchestration, BI tooling, and data governance.
• Build reliable Python services and developer-facing tools for data products.
• Develop infrastructure as code with Terraform.
• Establish patterns for petabyte-scale data with governance, security, reliability, and usability.
• Partner with data engineers, analysts, scientists, and product teams to translate needs into durable platform capabilities.
• Evaluate and implement agentic workflows with appropriate controls and observability.
• Set technical direction and mentor other engineers.
