Job summary

Helion Energy is seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineer to design, develop, and operate a secure, scalable data platform that supports mechanical and electrical engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and finance. You will work with cross-functional teams on data pipelines, warehouses, and data lakes across on-prem and cloud environments, onsite at our Everett, WA headquarters.

You will own batch and real-time ELT processes, ensure data quality and governance, and drive observability

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 8+ years of software and/or data engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed data systems.
• Hands-on experience with modern data storage and processing technologies (e.g., Kafka, Postgres, blob storage, Flink, dbt, Iceberg).
• Expertise in Python and SQL; experience with other languages like Java, Scala, or Go.
• Cloud-native experience in Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud, using container orchestration technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform.
• Familiar with DevOps best practices, using version control (Git), CI/CD (e.g., Buildkite, GitHub Actions), and monitoring and alerting (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog).
• Experience with AI/ML, including LLMs and MCP servers.

Responsibilities

• Design large-scale data pipelines, ELT processes, data warehouses, and data lakes (on prem and cloud).
• Scale data platform to handle growth from millions of parts to millions per day.
• Monitor and improve data connections and observability across systems.
• Ensure data quality and governance with schemas, lineage, and access controls.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts, scientists, and leadership to deliver data solutions.
• Stay current with emerging data technologies and recommend best-fit solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotations to maintain SLA and 24/7 schedules.
