Job summary

Gemini is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer in New York to act as an SRE for our data infrastructure, crafting automated, self-service foundations for datastores and scaling across PostgreSQL, Aurora, NoSQL and more. You will drive observability, reliability, and high availability across a hybrid, cloud-native environment.

Qualifications

• Deep, specialist-level experience managing and scaling relational databases such as PostgreSQL and Amazon Aurora, including replication, failover, backup/recovery, and query tuning.
• Demonstrated SRE mindset with automation, self-service tooling, and guardrails that reduce manual database ops.
• Hands-on experience with at least one non-relational paradigm (NoSQL, columnar, document, key-value) in production.
• Familiarity with cloud data platforms/services (AWS RDS/Redshift, EMR, BigQuery, Databricks).
• Experience in an infrastructure-as-code environment (Terraform) and scripting (Python, Go).

Responsibilities

• Build IaC, CLI tools, and CI/CD-driven automation for database provisioning, scaling, and failover across environments.
• Serve as the team’s depth on relational DBs and ensure high performance and availability under growing workloads.
• Extend operational rigor to additional data stores (NoSQL, columnar) with common tooling and guardrails.
• Define and track SLOs/error budgets, build monitoring/alerting, and participate in on-call rotations for production issues.
