Software Methods is seeking a Senior Data Modeler/Architect for a 24+ month contract opportunity at our client in Center City Philadelphia, PA. This is a hybrid opportunity. Client will only consider local candidates.

We are seeking an industry-veteran Principal Data Architect & Enterprise Data Modeler with over 20 years of hands‑on experience to lead our data strategy, enterprise schema design, and database engineering roadmap. In this role, you will bridge the gap between complex business requirements and high-performance technical infrastructure.

The ideal candidate is a subject matter expert in Oracle database architectures and advanced PL/SQL engineering, combining deep roots in relational warehousing with modern, cloud‑forward data paradigms. You will own the structural blueprint of our enterprise data estate, ensuring absolute data integrity, sub‑second query performance, and seamless data governance across legacy and modern cloud platforms.

Responsibilities:

• Blueprint Design: Architect and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for highly complex, multi‑terabyte transactional (OLTP) and analytical (OLAP) environments.
• Standards & Governance: Establish, champion, and enforce enterprise‑wide data modeling standards, metadata management protocols, and data governance frameworks.
• Modern Integration: Design structures that bridge traditional Oracle data warehouses with modern cloud data lakes, lakehouses, and real‑time streaming platforms.

2. Advanced PL/SQL & Oracle Database Engineering

• Database Programming: Author, review, and optimize highly sophisticated, mission‑critical PL/SQL packages, stored procedures, triggers, and analytical functions. ]
• Performance Tuning: Act as the ultimate escalation point for complex database performance tuning, rewriting convoluted queries, optimizing execution plans, and managing indexing/partitioning strategies.
• Legacy Modernization: Lead data migration, schema refactoring, and data cleansing initiatives to safely transition heavy on‑premise PL/SQL logic into highly scalable modern architectures

3. Technical Leadership & Collaboration

• Cross‑functional Alignment: Partner closely with C‑suite executives, product managers, and business analysts to translate high‑level business vision into robust technical data roadmaps.
• Mentorship: Serve as a technical mentor to senior database administrators (DBAs), data engineers, and developers, conducting rigorous data model and code reviews.
• Tool Evaluation: Continuously evaluate emerging data technologies, data fabric frameworks, and modeling software to keep the enterprise architecture future‑proof

Required:

• Data Modeling Tools: Mastery of industry‑standard modeling software such as ERwin Data Modeler, IDERA ER/Studio, or SAP PowerDesigner
• Data Methodologies: In-depth knowledge of Relational (3NF), Dimensional (Kimball/Inmon), Data Vault 2.0, and Object‑Oriented data modeling paradigms
• Oracle Deep‑Dive: Unrivaled understanding of Oracle internals, optimizer behavior, material views, advanced queuing, and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)
• Cloud & Hybrid Data: Hands‑on architecture experience with major cloud environments like Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS (RDS, Redshift), Azure (Synapse, SQL Managed Instance), or Snowflake
• Modern Ecosystems: Exposure to or integration experience with big data pipelines, Python/PySpark, dbt, or streaming platforms like Apache Kafka
• Exceptional clear‑box communication skills; ability to articulate complex structural concepts simply to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Proven track record of leading large‑scale architectural transformations without disrupting day‑to‑day business operations
• 20+ years of dedicated experience in Data Architecture, Enterprise Data Modeling, and Core Database Development.
• 15+ years of extensive hands‑on mastery with Oracle Database suites (Oracle 19c/21c and legacy versions) and advanced PL/SQL engineering.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
