Job summary

Genius Road, LLC is seeking a Data Modeler to join our Data Architecture team in Dallas, designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data models using erwin Data Modeler to support analytics and business operations.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server, strong SQL skills, and a collaborative approach to align data models with governance and performance standards. This is a hybrid Dallas position with local candidates only.

Qualifications

• 4+ years hands-on data modeling in enterprise environments.
• Proficiency with erwin Data Modeler (v9.x+), including models, templates, DDL generation.
• Strong experience with Oracle databases (11g/12c/19c/21c) and Microsoft SQL Server (2016+).
• Advanced SQL skills with DDL, tables, indexes, constraints, sequences, synonyms, and materialized views.
• Understanding of database internals: indexing, partitioning, clustering, and execution plans.
• Experience with data modeling best practices: normalization, denormalization, surrogate keys, SCD, Data Vault (preferred).
• Experience using version control tools such as Git and model comparison/diff tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Team player with proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
• Experience with Hadoop and/or MongoDB is a plus.
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise data environments preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models using erwin Data Modeler.
• Create, review, and optimize DDL scripts for tables, views, indexes, constraints, partitions, and structures.
• Perform forward and reverse engineering of Oracle and SQL Server databases.
• Collaborate with data architects, DBAs, ETL developers, and stakeholders to refine requirements.
• Develop data models adhering to normalization standards (3NF/BCNF) while ensuring data quality and referential integrity.
• Support dimensional modeling initiatives (star/snowflake) for warehousing and analytics.
• Conduct data model reviews, impact analysis, and version control using erwin or similar tools.
• Participate in data governance initiatives, including metadata management and data lineage.
• Optimize models for performance, scalability, and maintainability across environments.
• Support migrations, schema comparisons, and synchronization across Development, QA, Production.
• Assist in optimizing existing enterprise data solutions.
• Follow Data Governance and Information Classification & Protection policies.
• Participate in architecture and design reviews with the Data Architecture team.

This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data models that support business operations, analytics, and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate has expertise witherwin Data Modeler, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server, along with experience developing scalable, high-quality data solutions. Working closely with data architects, DBAs, ETL developers, and business stakeholders, the Data Modeler translates complex business requirements into well-structured data models that align with enterprise data governance, performance, and integration standards.

Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency witherwin Data Modeler(version 9.x or higher preferred), including subject areas, model templates, and DDL generation
• Strong experience with Oracle databases (11g/12c/19c/21c) and Microsoft SQL Server (2016 or newer)
• Advanced SQL skills with extensive knowledge of DDL, including creating and modifying tables, indexes, constraints, sequences, synonyms, and materialized views
• Strong understanding of database internals, including indexing strategies, partitioning, clustering, and query execution plans
• Experience with data modeling best practices, including normalization, denormalization, surrogate keys, slowly changing dimensions (SCD), and Data Vault (preferred)
• Experience using version control tools such as Git and model comparison/diff tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Self-motivated with strong organizational and multitasking abilities
