About the Position:

As the Senior Data Manager, you will be instrumental in supporting the development and use of our data systems. Your goal is to ensure that information flows timely and accurately to and from the organization and within. You will be our go-to person responsible for monitoring and responding to unusual events that occur in our system.

As a Senior Data Manager, you bring forth a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures. You are a SQL expert with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities. Our ideal candidate will have some previous experience working for a broker, MGA, insurance company, or an insurtech.

This position is a 100% U.S. based remote opportunity that can be based in one of the following states: AL, AZ, FL, GA, KY, MA, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.

Some travel for team meetings and training may be required.

Key Responsibilities: (What you'll be asked to do)

  1. Build efficient ways to organize, store, and analyze data while maintaining availability and consistency.
  2. Create processes and enforce policies for effective data management.
  3. Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy, and legitimacy of data.
  4. Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects.
  5. Monitor and respond to unusual events that occur in our system (you’re the go-to fixer).
  6. Establish rules and procedures for data sharing with senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  7. Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure compliance with legal and company standards.
  8. Assist with reports and data extraction when needed.
  9. Monitor and analyze information and data systems to enhance and evaluate their performance (suggestions of new technologies and upgrades).
  10. Troubleshoot data-related problems and authorize maintenance or modifications.

The Successful Candidate: (What we're looking for)

  1. You have a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures.
  2. You are organized, deadline-oriented, and able to prioritize tasks and deliver quality results under pressure.
  3. You have an analytical mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
  4. You have excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  5. You have intense attention to detail and quality assurance.

Some Requirements:

  1. Expertise in SQL Server (MS and PostgreSQL), Tableau, R & Python.
  2. Experience using platforms such as Dataiku.
  3. 7+ years of experience as a data manager or related position.
  4. Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions such as collection, analysis, and distribution.
  5. Understanding of data warehousing and star schemas.
  6. Basic familiarity with predictive analysis and data visualization techniques.
  7. Solid understanding of R and Python environment configuration and basic programming.
  8. Expert level in Microsoft Excel.
  9. Understanding of spatial database functionality is a plus.

Education:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
  2. High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED) is required.

Computer Skills:

  1. You are familiar with predictive analysis and data visualization techniques using relevant tools such as: Tableau, Dataiku, R, and Python.
  2. Must be proficient with MS Office and other internal insurance-related programs, systems, or applications.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively using programs such as Slack & MS Teams. You are comfortable sharing screens and video chatting.
