Job summary

Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Data Layer within the Platform group. You will shape the GraphQL API platform that connects client applications to backend services across Consumer, Base, and Institutional products, delivering reliable, scalable API infrastructure.

You will own projects end-to-end, design high-performance systems, improve tooling, and partner with product teams to evolve the platform while mentoring engineers and driving incident response and observability

Qualifications

5+ years of production-grade distributed systems experience.
Proficiency in Go, Java, or similar backend languages.
Experience with microservices, API platforms, and high-availability systems.
Strong on end-to-end project delivery with reliability focus.
Experience with on-call responsibilities and incident response.
Ability to translate platform capabilities for cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

Own and deliver projects end to end, from scoping and system design through implementation, rollout, and production validation.
Design and build high-reliability, low-latency systems serving millions of users.
Build and improve the API framework and tooling used by engineers across the company.
Drive operational excellence: own SLOs, observability, incident response, and reduce toil.
Partner with product teams to design API schemas and support service launches.
Set technical direction through reviews and mentorship.
