Job summary

Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Senior Data Fusion and Tracking Systems Engineer to advance next‑generation tracking and data fusion capabilities for national security missions. You will work with DoD sponsors and multidisciplinary teams to develop, evaluate, and implement algorithmic solutions.

The role emphasizes modeling, simulation, and analysis to improve system performance, mentor junior staff, and present concise technical briefings to stakeholders

Qualifications

  • BS in mathematics, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, statistics, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and evaluating tracking and data fusion algorithms and systems.
  • Expertise in one or more areas: multi-target tracking, multi-sensor data fusion, data association/correlation, state estimation, Kalman filtering, MHT, JPDA, track initiation/maintenance, distributed data fusion, sensor information characterization, and performance measures.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, C/C++, Julia or similar scientific programming languages.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; experience delivering technical briefings.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve advanced tracking and data fusion algorithms via modeling, simulation, analysis, and test data.
  • Evaluate tracking algorithms within complex systems to identify performance limits and design improvements.
  • Design technical studies to develop algorithmic concepts and recommendations for future systems.
  • Analyze tracking performance, sensor information, and algorithm effectiveness with modeling and data analysis tools.
  • Collaborate with DoD sponsors and multidisciplinary teams to solve tracking and data fusion challenges.
  • Develop and present technical analyses and briefing materials to sponsors and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the technical direction while mentoring junior staff.
