Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineering Manager to lead and mentor our data engineering team of 6-8 data engineers. This role is crucial for scaling our data platform, establishing best practices, and ensuring we can deliver on the data needs of our business. You will be a hands-on leader, combining deep technical expertise with strong people management skills to drive our data strategy forward.

The position is open in a data engineering team that is responsible for processing Claims, Revenue, and Medicare Specific files and data from 30+ payors into our Data Warehouse.

Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership & Management:
    • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented data engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
    • Manage the hiring, training, and professional development of team members.
    • Conduct performance reviews, provide regular feedback, and guide career paths.
  • Technical Strategy & Execution:
    • Own the technical vision and roadmap for our data platform, ensuring it aligns with business objectives and scales with company growth.
    • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust, scalable, and reliable data pipelines and data warehouses.
    • Drive best practices in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and data governance.
    • Oversee the implementation of new data technologies and architectures.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Partner with product managers, data scientists, analysts, and other engineering teams to understand data needs and deliver effective solutions.
    • Translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable technical plans.
    • Communicate technical concepts and project progress to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Ensure the data platform meets our standards for performance, security, and data quality.
    • Establish and maintain a culture of operational excellence, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
    • Manage and optimize data infrastructure costs.
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, with 5+ years in a technical leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience building and leading high-performing data engineering teams.
  • Deep expertise with modern data technologies, including:
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
    • Big data frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop).
    • Data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
    • Workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster).
  • Solid experience with SQL, Python, PySpark.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision with immediate business needs.
  • Experience with real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with healthcare data and healthcare insurance feeds.
  • Familiarity with Data Analytics and reporting.
  • Familiarity with ML/AI.
