Job summary

Atlassian is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to design premier data architectures and end-to-end data solutions. You will collaborate with business stakeholders to translate needs into technical requirements and drive scalable data platforms.

You will partner with engineering, product, and data science teams to deliver high-impact ELT/ETL pipelines, advanced data models, and robust data quality controls, enabling self-service data consumption across the organization.

Qualifications

• BE in Computer Science or equivalent with 6+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or similar role.
• Experience building scalable data pipelines in Spark using Airflow or similar schedulers.
• Experience with Databricks and its APIs.
• Experience with modern databases and data lakes (Redshift, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Postgres).
• Proficient in Python/Scala and SQL.
• Experience with CI/CD tools like Bitbucket and Git.
• Experience with large-scale batch and streaming data processing.
• Experience working for SAAS companies.
• Experience with Machine Learning and open source contributions.
• Experience building self-service tooling and platforms.

Responsibilities

• Partner across engineering to drive high-impact, company-wide data initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster technical excellence.
• Collaborate with leadership, product engineers, PMs, and data scientists to align data requirements with business goals.
• Design and architect scalable, high-performance data solutions.
• Develop and optimize ELT/ETL pipelines for large and specialized datasets.
• Design robust data models for fast storage and retrieval.
• Implement data quality frameworks ensuring accuracy and freshness.
• Own end-to-end data engineering lifecycle for team solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotation to ensure platform stability.
• Partner with software teams to build self-service data systems.
