Shannon & Wilson is seeking a Data Engineer to manage and evolve a new Microsoft-based data platform, enabling reliable data access for project delivery, reporting, and leadership insights. You will work across data ingestion, modeling, governance, and platform improvements from Seattle, WA.

The role emphasizes hands-on SQL, data modeling, and ETL/ELT work using Fabric, Synapse, and Azure Data Factory, with a strong focus on security and collaboration with analysts and IT staff.

Qualifications

• 7–14 years of experience with Microsoft data stack (Azure SQL, Data Factory, Synapse, Power BI or Fabric).
• Strong SQL development skills and data modeling (star/snowflake).
• Hands-on ETL/ELT pipelines and automation scheduling.
• Familiarity with cloud-based data security and access control practices.
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse and mirrored databases preferred.
• Familiarity with engineering or construction industry data preferred.
• Python or Spark for data transformation preferred.
• Knowledge of DevOps/Git-based version control for data pipelines preferred.
• Strong collaboration with project managers, analysts, and IT staff.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Continuous improvement mindset with willingness to learn new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Platform Operations & Maintenance: Administer Microsoft Fabric/Azure SQL and Power BI workspaces; ensure pipelines and notebooks run reliably.
• Data Engineering & Integration: Build and optimize ingestion from ERP and project systems; maintain clean data models.
• Governance & Security: Apply naming conventions, schema design, access control; ensure compliance.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay current with Fabric, Power BI, and Data Factory; propose automation and features.
