Job summary

Darwin Recruitment is seeking a Senior Data Engineer (GCP) for a freelance 18-month engagement. The role is remote with 1-2 office visits per month and located in New York City, USA. You will build and maintain scalable data pipelines on Google Cloud, supporting data, product analytics and AI initiatives.

The ideal candidate has strong GCP experience, Python/SQL proficiency, and can work independently in a fast-moving environment. US citizenship is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data stack.
• Proficiency in BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage (GCS) and Dataflow.
• Strong Python and SQL skills for data pipeline development.
• Experience orchestrating workflows with Airflow / Cloud Composer.
• Exposure to AI tooling such as Vertex AI, Gemini, Claude Code or CodeX is a strong plus.
• Comfortable working independently and picking up context quickly in a fast-moving environment.
• Must be a US Citizen; no visa sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform.
• Contribute to a broader roadmap spanning data, product analytics and AI initiatives.
• Support a fast-scaling Data, Product and AI organisation with a growing backlog of data engineering work.
