Job summary

First Citizens is seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation supporting our data engineering platform. The role spans AWS and Azure environments with a focus on IaC and secure deployment workflows.

Responsibilities include automating deployment frameworks for Airflow, dbt Cloud, and data processing jobs, plus monitoring, logging, and disaster recovery planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree plus 4 years of DevOps engineering experience or High School Diploma/GED with 8 years of DevOps experience.
• Experience building automated CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jenkins and cloud platforms.
• Proficiency with Terraform and infrastructure as code; configuration management tools such as Ansible or Puppet.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, automate, test, and deploy enterprise CI/CD pipelines across multiple environments with secure rollback capabilities.
• Design, provision, and manage reusable IaC frameworks for Snowflake, AWS, DBT, Qlik infrastructure using Terraform.
• Develop Python scripts and tools for automation, cloud operations, and deployment workflows; build integrations between CI/CD, cloud platforms, DBT, and Snowflake.

Overview

This is a remote role that may only be hired in the following location(s): North Carolina, Arizona, Texas and Florida.

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and deployment workflows supporting our data engineering platform. This role focuses on infrastructure as code, configuration management, cloud operations, and enabling data engineers to deploy reliably and rapidly across AWS and Azure environments.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Design, build, automate, test, deploy enterprise CI/CD deployment pipelines using GitLab, Azure DevOps frameworks across multiple environments ensuring secure, auditable, rollback capabilities.
• Design, provision, and manage reusable and standardized Infrastructure as Code frameworks for Snowflake, AWS, DBT, Qlik infrastructure using Terraform.
• Develop Python scripts and tools for infrastructure automation, cloud operations, and deployment workflows. Build custom integrations between CI/CD systems, cloud platforms, DBT, and Snowflake.
• Implement enterprise monitoring, logging, and observability solutions using Splunk, Dynatrace, CloudWatch to enable proactive alerting, centralized log management, audit compliance, and real-time visibility into infrastructure health, system utilization, and operational reliability.
• Design and automate deployment frameworks for Airflow DAGs, dbt Cloud transformations, data processing jobs, and application components, leveraging artifact management, container registries, and blue-green/canary deployment strategies.
• Design backup and disaster recovery strategies for data infrastructure; automate backup provisioning and testing.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures for infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and platform services; promote knowledge sharing through mentoring, training sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 4 years of experience in DevOps engineering, data technologies, cloud platforms OR High School Diploma or GED and 8 years of experience in DevOps engineering, data technologies, cloud platforms

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong experience developing automated CI/CD frameworks using GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, AWS
• Hands-on with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code
• Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet, or similar)
• Python programming, scripting, automation development
• Integrating on-premise and cloud applications/tools with AWS services, Snowflake, DBT
• Configuration Management: Ansible and/or Puppet — ability to write playbooks/manifests and manage infrastructure state
• Cloud platforms: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, VPC, IAM, Lambda, Glue, Lakeformation) and Azure (VMs, App Services, Blob Storage, Cosmos DB, networking)
• Snowflake: operational knowledge of warehouse management, cost optimization, and cloud integration
• Git/GitLab/GitHub: version control, branching strategies, and repository management
• Linux/Unix system administration and command-line proficiency
• Networking fundamentals: VPCs, subnets, security groups, DNS, load balancing
• Relevant cloud and devops certifications
• Financial banking experience is a plus.
