Job summary

Tech Mirrors is seeking a mid-level Data Engineer & Database Administrator to join our data platform team in Bellevue, WA. You will build and maintain scalable data pipelines while ensuring databases are reliable, secure, and high-performing.

You’ll work closely with analysts, engineers, and product teams to deliver clean, timely data and support reporting needs across the organization. This role requires 10+ years’ experience and is onsite for a 6-month engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience in data engineering, database administration, or similar roles.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Amazon Redshift.
• Solid SQL skills for transactional and analytical workloads.
• Experience with AWS data and database services (S3, Glue, Lambda, RDS, Redshift).
• Proficiency in Python or another scripting language.
• Experience with workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Step Functions).
• Hands-on database administration: MongoDB, Redshift, PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, pgBadger, MongoDB Atlas).
• Understanding of database security and least-privilege access.
• Experience with Kafka or Kinesis; familiarity with dbt.
• Knowledge of data lake/lakehouse architectures and Terraform/CloudFormation.
• CI/CD experience for data pipelines; basic DevOps skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines across multiple systems.
• Design and optimize data models in PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redshift.
• Develop and manage data workflows using AWS services.
• Administer and maintain database environments across dev, test, and prod.
• Monitor data pipelines and databases, troubleshoot issues, and set up alerts.
• Optimize query performance, indexes, and configurations for relational and NoSQL systems.
• Manage database provisioning, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery.
• Ensure database security, including access control and encryption.
• Plan capacity and scale systems to meet growing data needs.
• Define and enforce data retention and archival policies.
• Collaborate with analytics and product teams to support reporting needs.
• Document data pipelines and procedures; participate in code reviews and best practices.
• Follow engineering standards and contribute to team knowledge.
