Job summary

W. W. Grainger, Inc. is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines powering analytics and applications. You will work across data engineering, platform, and software teams to deliver reliable data products and integrate with SAP S/4HANA.

Your role emphasizes cloud-native architecture, automation, and strong testing, documentation, and mentoring of junior engineers in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years designing, building, and supporting large-scale data engineering systems.
• Experience delivering end-to-end data products from design to deployment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud-native data pipelines and ETL workflows.
• Develop data products for analytics, reporting, and real-time decision-making.
• Build backend applications using Python, SQL, and Scala.
• Create data lakes, data warehouses, and APIs for real-time and batch use cases.
• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product, operations, and design.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines and IaC using Docker, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions.
• Write well-documented code with testing and observability.
• Ensure data quality with automated validation and monitoring.
• Knowledge of SAP S4/HANA integration and reporting.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns.
