Job description

About Us

The wholesale distribution industry is ready for a revolution, and Proton is leading the charge. The world relies on distributors to sell nearly every physical product, but despite its massive contribution to the global economy, this industry has been left behind in terms of technology. Proton is changing that. With AI-powered sales software, we’re breaking through the complexity of selling millions of products and making it easier for distributors to anticipate customer needs. Our mission is to bring the distribution industry into the modern age and the results speak for themselves. Distributors using Proton see 10x ROI, faster new hire ramp-up, and happier sales teams.

In 2022, we raised a $20MSeries Abacked byFelicis Ventures(investors in Twitch, Shopify, Opendoor, and many others) andBattery Ventures. This year, we’re laser-focused on driving customer growth. If you’re excited about the opportunity to wear multiple hats, and continuously learn and experiment, now’s the time to join the Proton team.

The Role

Proton is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help us scale our Client Engineering. This customer-facing engineering role is at the heart of Proton’s implementation layer, where client data is transformed and integrated into our platform at scale. You'll be responsible for designing, building, and owning robust data pipelines that deliver real value to our customers. You’ll partner closely with client stakeholders and internal teams to deliver reliable, performant integrations and continuously improve the integration platform that powers them.

This role is perfect for a senior data engineer who thrives in fast-paced environments, values customer impact, and wants to shape the systems they operate in. You'll help us grow our integration platform from handling 500+ Airflow jobs and 100GB of data ingested daily to 1TB+ and thousands of jobs as our business scales. This is a high-impact opportunity to evolve the architecture, improve performance, and help drive the future of our platform.

Proton collaborates with Oyster HR to hire international employees as full-time (long-term) contractors within our company.

The target salary range for this role is $40,000 - $60,000. Final offers will be based on your skills and previous experience. Proton collaborates with Oyster HR to hire international employees as full time (long term) contractors within our company.

This role will be fully remote and based in either India or Latin America.

What you'll do

  • Client-Facing Implementations: Own the technical implementation of data integrations for new and existing customers. Work directly with client IT teams to understand their needs, and execute high-quality implementations that meet their needs.
  • Pipeline Development: Build and maintain robust data pipelines using Aiflow, Python, pySpark, and SQL. Ingest data from APIs, flat files, and customer systems. Ensure high standards of reliability, performance, maintainability and continuously improve the underlying framework that powers them, ensuring the platform scales reliably and efficiently as we grow from hundreds to thousands.
  • Data Warehousing & Analytics: Build and customize reports for clients, using Looker and backed by our data warehouse. Extend Looker dashboards to meet evolving needs, and improve the underlying data models to ensure accuracy, clarity, and performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Customer Success, Product, and Engineering teams to prioritize work, debug issues, and deliver exceptional client outcomes.

You'll be a great fit for this role if you have:

    • Experience: 7+ years of experience in data engineering or backend roles with a focus on data and system integrations.
    • Proven track record of building, architecting and scaling data pipelines and ETL systems (Spark, Scala or equivalent) along with modern data warehouse technologies such as Delta Lake, BigQuery, or similar.
    • Technical Skills:
      • Strong development skills with Python, Go Java or equivalent.
      • SQL and data modeling expertise, including warehousing patterns.
      • API integration experience.
      • Familiarity with Docker, Git, and CI/CD best practices.
      • Experience with data analytics dashboards and tooling like Looker or Tableau.
      • Bonus: Experience with Redis, Elasticsearch, or NoSQL systems.

    Soft Skills:

    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex systems to both technical and non-technical audiences.
    • A customer-centric mindset - you enjoy building systems that directly help users succeed.
    • Passion for working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with evolving priorities.
    • Curiosity and drive to improve systems, introduce new technologies, and build for scale.
Benefits
  • Competitive Salaries + Company Stock Options- we want to pay you well (and equitably!) and make you feel like an owner.
  • Flexible Schedule- we think high levels of autonomy, responsibility and working asynchronously foster an amazing workplace.
  • Unlimited PTO + 10 Company Paid Holidays- we even have tools implemented to detect burnout to make sure folks recharge regularly.
  • 12 Weeks Fully Paid Parental Leave- that goes for primary and secondary caregivers; even if you’re adopting or fostering!
  • Biannual Company Paid off-sites- time for us to be together, brainstorm, and make magic happen.
