Job summary

Foundation Software in Strongsville is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and standardize our data platform. You will lead scalable pipelines, data models, and governance while partnering with analysts, stakeholders, and tech teams.

You will move from architecture to production, implementing CI/CD, tuning performance, and driving best practices across the data ecosystem. A hands-on leader with strong SQL and cloud data warehousing is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Expert-level SQL skills in database design, dimensional modeling, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.
• Experience with modern cloud data warehouses and Lakehouse architectures.
• Strong experience designing logical and physical data models including star and snowflake schemas.
• Background implementing CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
• Experience with programming languages used in data eng (Python, Java, or Scala).
• Excellent experience with modern ETL/ELT orchestration tools (Fivetran, Azure/Fabric Data Factory, dbt).
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and data services (AWS, Azure, Fabric).
• Proficient with version control systems (GitHub/Azure DevOps).
• Experience with BI tools (Power BI or Tableau).
• Comfortable working independently in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and manage data repositories, data integration solutions, and scalable pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD practices for data pipelines and transformations.
• Design and implement monitoring, observability, and operational support for data pipelines.
• Troubleshoot data pipeline failures, performance bottlenecks, and production incidents.
• Evaluate, select, deploy, and maintain data infrastructure components.
• Create and evolve data models and schemas for storage, retrieval, and analytics.
• Optimize storage, processing, and query performance while controlling cloud costs.
• Implement data validation, quality checks, and metadata management across pipelines.
• Ensure data governance, security, and compliance by design.
• Document architectures, pipelines, and data models for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and deliver trusted data products.
• Mentor and coach team members on engineering best practices.
