Job summary

Checkr, Inc. is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the People Data platform initiatives in San Francisco. You will design and ship data pipelines, scale core services, and ensure data accuracy across identity records powering Checkr products.

You will collaborate with engineering, product, and data teams, mentor engineers, and contribute to architectural decisions while growing the platform’s scalability and reliability.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building scalable, performant data platforms or backend services.
• Strong proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL with CS fundamentals.
• Experience building large-scale data processing pipelines (ETL/ELT, batch and streaming).
• Familiarity with big data tech (Kafka, Spark, Iceberg) and AWS stack (EKS, EMR, Glue, Athena, S3).
• Experience with data modeling and system architecture; writing clear, tested code.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship data pipelines for the People Data platform from design to release.
• Lead execution of core services with ownership, balancing speed and long-term reliability.
• Build and maintain large-scale data pipelines serving identity and people records across Checkr products.
• Partner with Product and cross-functional teams to scope initiatives and shape roadmaps.
• Ensure platform availability and data accuracy, participate in on-call rotation and drive improvements.
• Mentor engineers and contribute through reviews, showcases, and proposals.
