Job summary

University of Colorado Anschutz is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and optimize backend data solutions enabling analytics and reporting. The role emphasizes ETL/ELT development, data pipelines, and cloud data infrastructure using Azure tools.

You will collaborate with data owners and stakeholders; Power BI knowledge is advantageous but not primary. The position offers a hybrid schedule with on-campus days and required in-person meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years in data engineering, data integration, data warehousing, or BI engineering.
• Experience with Azure data platform technologies (Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL, ADLS, etc.).
• Strong SQL and Python development skills; knowledge of ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Experience modernizing legacy data platforms and BI integrations.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, optimize, and operate complex batch and event-driven pipelines across enterprise sources.
• Create reusable SQL, Python, Spark patterns with robust logging and alerts.
• Lead modernization of legacy ETL and Microsoft BI integrations into Azure or Fabric architectures.
• Design architectures for data lakes, lakehouses, warehouses, data marts, and integration layers.
• Build data quality, observability, CI/CD, and DevOps practices for data pipelines.
• Lead peer reviews, maintain architecture decisions, mappings, and standards.
