Job summary

Planetary Talent is hiring its second dedicated Data Platform Engineer to scale our intelligent utility-billing analytics platform from foundation to scale.

You will own reporting pipelines, build AI-ready data infrastructure, and partner with engineers, analysts, and PMs in a remote-first US team. We value collaboration, ownership, and quality observability as we grow our stack (DuckDB, MotherDuck, DBT, Dagster, Hex, MCP).

Qualifications

• 4+ years in data platform engineering or similar.
• Strong Python and SQL expertise.
• Hands-on DBT experience.
• Dimensional modeling fluency: star schemas, facts, and dimensions.
• Experience with AI/LLM-adjacent data work (RAG, embeddings) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Reporting and analytics: contribute to modeled data and pipelines behind customer-facing reports on consumption, cost, and rate trends.
• AI-ready data infrastructure: ingestion, semantic models, storage, and retrieval (SQL, RAG, vector, or graph-based).
• Dimensional modeling at the core: build robust facts and dimensions that power analysis for the team and its customers.
• Platform reliability: testing, lineage, freshness monitoring, and alerting so data issues are caught before a customer sees them.
• Cross-team partnership: translate vague product and compliance questions into concrete models with engineers, analysts, and PMs.
