Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Data Engineer 5 in Richmond, VA to design and implement our AI-enabled data ecosystem. You will work with Python, SQL, Databricks and Snowflake to build scalable, reliable data pipelines powering LLM workflows and predictive models.

You’ll partner with Data Scientists, Analysts and other Engineers to define architectures, enforce data governance, and optimize performance across multi-cloud environments. This role blends hands-on coding with technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
• At least 6 years of experience in application development.
• At least 4 years of experience in distributed data.
• At least 4 years of experience with SQL.
• At least 4 years of experience programming with Python, Java, or Scala.
• At least 4 years of experience designing and developing data pipelines.
• At least 2 years of experience in data modeling with relational and non-relational databases.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and scale data pipelines (batch and real-time) for AI/ML and LLM applications.
• Provide technical leadership and guide engineers on coding standards and patterns.
• Collaborate with Security and Data Governance for privacy safeguards and automated lineage.
• Build scalable feature stores for real-time inference and offline training across executive models.
• Audit and optimize cross-cloud pipelines, queries, and storage for efficiency and cost.
• Partner with PMs, Data Scientists, and leadership to deliver production-ready data solutions.
