Job description

As a Senior Data Engineer in the Veterinary Software organization, you will serve as a leader for data modeling and development supporting commercial data analytics. As a data subject matter expert, you will support your tech lead in delivering reporting data solutions, designing architectures to capture, integrate, organize, centralize, and maintain data.

We are a highly collaborative and dynamic team that has a direct impact on the company’s financial success. Our work helps clients make data-driven decisions that drive growth strategies. In this role, you will be a “manager-doer” – diving into complex and evolving data to uncover insights using SQL and other languages, while also managing direct reports.

In this Role:

1. You will develop and maintain the technical architecture of the reporting platform.
2. You will develop knowledge of IDEXX data systems and processes, recommending and developing new data sets for analysis.
3. You will collaborate with technology and management teams to define data standards, ensuring data is stored, consumed, integrated, and managed effectively across the organization.
4. You will ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and system performance through continuous monitoring and refinement.
5. You will ensure data interoperability across the reporting platform.
6. You will promote the concept of data integrity and strategic value across the organization.
7. You will collaborate across the engineering organization to develop strategies aligned with VetSoft application development.
8. You will work with data source and target systems to identify data issues and gaps.
9. You will contribute to the VetSoft metadata model and standardize data from various sources.

What do you need to succeed?

• Experience in quantitative analysis, problem solving, and data visualization.
• Strong knowledge of designing and implementing scalable data models, schemas, and data pipelines.
• Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or similar frameworks.
• Proficiency in cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake.
• Hands-on experience with tools like Informatica, Talend, or AWS Glue.
• Familiarity with compliance standards such as GDPR and HIPAA, and data security best practices.
• Experience with cloud principles and practices.
• Previous SaaS environment experience.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms and modern web technologies (React, GoLang, Typescript, Python, .NET, Java).
• Experience with Agile methodologies like Scrum or Kanban.
• 5+ years of experience with big data and analytics.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
