Chartmetric, a leading data analytics platform for the music industry, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer in the San Mateo area to help build scalable data infrastructure.
You will own data pipelines, improve performance, and collaborate with backend and product teams to power dashboards and AI features like Chartmetric Flow. This hands-on role offers ownership and the chance to influence architecture and cost efficiency.
Chartmetric is one of the music industry’s leading data analytics platforms, trusted by more than 8,000 customers, including major labels, management firms, and music professionals around the world.
Over the past decade, we’ve built a global data platform spanning streaming, social media, radio, playlists, charts, and audiences. Today, we have more than $12M in annual recurring revenue, a profitable business, and a lean, globally distributed team across the U.S. and Korea.
We’re now entering a new chapter. Alongside our core analytics platform, we’re building AI-native products like Chartmetric Flow that help people ask questions, explore data, and find insights in new ways.
We’re established enough to have meaningful scale and real customers, and small enough that your work can directly shape the company.
We’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help build, scale, and improve the data infrastructure at the heart of Chartmetric.
Data is the foundation of everything we do. We collect, process, and analyze massive amounts of information from music streaming platforms, social networks, radio, charts, and other sources around the world. Our customers depend on this data to make important business decisions, and our new AI products create even greater opportunities to make it useful.
You’ll work closely with our data engineering, backend, and product teams to design reliable data pipelines, improve processing performance, and make our infrastructure more scalable and cost-efficient.
This is a hands-on engineering role with significant ownership. You'll work on existing systems, identify bottlenecks, and build better solutions. When pipelines fail, queries slow down, or data quality issues emerge, you'll investigate the underlying causes and help resolve them.
We're looking for someone who enjoys understanding how systems actually work, challenges existing assumptions, and takes pride in making complex data infrastructure simpler, faster, and more reliable.
You have substantial hands-on experience building and operating production data systems. You've worked with large datasets, developed complex data pipelines, and improved the performance and reliability of systems that other people depend on.
You're a strong engineer who can take a difficult technical problem from investigation through implementation and production. You don't stop at making something work—you want to understand why it works, how it might fail, and how to make it better.
You have strong SQL and Python skills, along with a solid understanding of database internals, data modeling, distributed processing, and data pipeline design. Experience with modern analytical databases, cloud infrastructure, and orchestration tools is particularly valuable.
You understand the tradeoffs involved in data engineering. You know that the most sophisticated architecture isn't always the best one, and you consider operational complexity, performance, cost, and long-term maintainability when making decisions.
You take ownership when things go wrong. When a pipeline breaks, data becomes inconsistent, or a system performs poorly, you're willing to dig into the details, identify the root cause, and help prevent the problem from happening again.
You communicate clearly and work well with engineers across different disciplines. You're comfortable explaining technical tradeoffs, challenging assumptions constructively, and collaborating with a distributed team.
You're curious about new technologies, including AI-assisted engineering, but you evaluate them based on practical results rather than hype.
Experience with high-volume data ingestion, web scraping, time-series data, ClickHouse, or AWS is a plus. Music-industry experience is not required.
You’ll help shape the engineering organization behind a profitable global business, with direct access to the founder and a clear connection between your work and customer outcomes.
Our challenges span large-scale data collection, analytics, product development, and new AI experiences. You’ll have room to improve an established platform while helping the team build what comes next.
Competitive base salary, plus equity and benefits.
The actual offer will depend on experience, qualifications, and the scope of responsibility.
