Job description

This job is hosted by Sydney Weaver. The role is for a Senior Data Engineer at a Y Combinator-backed Bio-Tech company. The position involves optimizing ETL pipelines, scaling data architecture, mentoring engineers, and supporting data infrastructure for analytics, machine learning, and product development.

Responsibilities

• Optimize and maintain ETL pipelines for data science, analytics, and machine learning teams
• Guide junior engineers through code reviews and best practices
• Develop scalable data infrastructure using Spark, dbt, AWS, Kinesis, and Terraform
• Build and support data lake/lakehouse and data warehouse solutions (Redshift or Snowflake preferred)
• Lead data integration efforts using tools like Airbyte, Stitch, and Airflow
• Own and enhance streaming data systems leveraging platforms like Kinesis and Firehose
• Drive architectural decisions and balance trade-offs in system design
• Collaborate cross-functionally to align data initiatives with company strategy
• Ensure high standards in data quality, security, and discoverability
• Translate complex technical challenges into clear solutions for non-technical stakeholders

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 8-10 years of engineering experience, preferably in SaaS or tech-driven organizations
• Experience with Spark or PySpark, DBT, Terraform, and Kinesis
• Expertise with data warehouses and modern data lake architectures
• Experience with orchestration and workflow tools like Airflow
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
• Ability to mentor engineers and contribute to team improvement
• Excellent communication skills
• Interest in SaaS and bio-tech/healthcare space
