Job summary

Tokio Marine North America Services (TMNAS) is seeking an experienced Data Engineer in Bala Cynwyd, PA to design and optimize data pipelines and ETL processes that power analytics and reporting across the organization.

You will collaborate with data analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to ensure high-quality data, build data dictionaries, and document procedures while staying current with evolving data technologies.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of IT experience, with 3+ years in data engineering.
• Strong SQL and SQL Server experience.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, Azure).
• Knowledge of Informatica and P&C Insurance is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; strong collaboration.

Essential Job Functions:

• Leads and/or participates in the design and development of complex data pipelines, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and decision support systems’ data procedures.
• Leads and/or participates in implementation of data integration solutions to ensure the availability of high-quality data for analytics and reporting.
• Collaborates with data analysts, architects, engineers and business stakeholders to understand data requirements.
• Ensures data quality and consistency by identifying and resolving data issues and creating data reconciliations.
• Optimizes data workflows and processing for performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Monitors data pipelines and proactively addresses issues to minimize downtime and disruptions.
• Works with stakeholders to aid with data-related technical issues.
• Documents data engineering processes, data lineage, and data dictionaries.
• Stays current with data engineering technologies, best practices, and industry trends.
• Creates, maintains and updates various knowledge articles such as Standard Operating Procedures, Knowledge Base Articles, FAQ, Design and Configuration documents.

Other Functions:

• Complies with proper internal controls as necessary to conduct job functions and/or carry out responsibilities and/or administrative activities at the Company.
• Establishes and builds strong working relations and partnerships with Business Units and IT teams.
• Performs special projects and other duties as may be assigned.
• Assists in data governance, data quality and data cleansing efforts.
• Contributes to disaster recovery and business continuity planning for data engineering.
• Participates in data architecture and data warehouse design discussions.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
• 7+ years of overall IT experience.
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering and management.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and SQL programming. SQL Server-specific knowledge required.
• Strong knowledge of Python preferred.
• Strong knowledge of cloud-based data platforms preferred (Databricks/Snowflake/Azure).
• Knowledge of Informatica is preferred.
• Knowledge of P&C Insurance industry preferred.
• Strong proficiency in data processes and knowledge of data models.
• Strong knowledge of data engineering technologies and tools, including data lakes, data warehouses, and cloud-based solutions.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational, or process problems, ability to apply this knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
• Proactive approach in staying updated on industry trends and emerging data technologies.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Strong customer service orientation (responsive, consultative, collaborative and accurate).
• Strong interpersonal relationship building skills: able to work with a variety of people and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
