Job summary

SSOE seeks a Senior Telecommunication Designer - Data Center to lead design, documentation, and coordination of telecommunications and structured cabling for mission-critical facilities across North America. You will work with in-house engineering and architecture teams to ensure standards compliance from scope development to commissioning.

The role requires 15+ years of telecom design experience, BICSI credentials, and mastery of TIA/NEC guidelines.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ABET Accredited) or related field.
• Minimum fifteen (15) years experience with SSOE as a Designer or nineteen (19) years with former employers.
• Working knowledge of data center concepts and availability requirements.
• Ability to prepare schedules, cable matrices, and coordination documents.
• BICSI certifications: RCDD, DCDC.
• Strong understanding of standards including TIA 942, TIA 568, TIA 569, TIA 606, TIA 607; NFPA 70 (NEC).
• Excellent communication, coordination, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Design telecommunications and low-voltage infrastructure for data center environments with redundant components.
• Prepare complete design and construction documentation: floor plans, room layouts, rack elevations, pathway layouts, schedules.
• Develop structured cabling using fiber and copper (including MPO when applicable).
• Plan data center spaces: MDA, HDA, EDA, and TRs.
• Coordinate telecom systems with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection and IT stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with codes and guidelines (TIA, BICSI, NEC, AHJ).
• Support SD, DD, CD, bidding, and construction administration phases.
• Respond to RFIs and review submittals.
• Participate in closeout documentation.
• Maintain QA/QC documentation.
