Position Summary

TECO-Westinghouse Motor Company is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer, PE to review and approve the mechanical design of medium- and low-voltage products for data center applications.

This position is responsible for ensuring structural integrity, proper lifting and transportation design, thermal performance, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. The Mechanical Engineer, PE will also develop and maintain mechanical design standards and material specifications while providing technical leadership throughout the product development and manufacturing process.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with overseas mechanical engineering teams, provide final engineering sign-off, support factory builds, and help resolve mechanical design and manufacturing issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve 3D models and fabrication drawings for skids, enclosures, and mechanical assemblies
  • Verify structural designs, including:
    • Lifting points
    • Seismic considerations
    • Wind loading considerations
    • Transportation constraints
  • Evaluate thermal management requirements for enclosed power modules, including:
    • Airflow
    • Ventilation
    • Filters
    • Louvers
    • HVAC interfaces
  • Review equipment layouts for maintainability, required clearances, and NEC working-space requirements
  • Develop and maintain mechanical design standards and material specifications
  • Establish and maintain requirements for painting and corrosion protection
  • Collaborate with external design resources and overseas mechanical engineering teams
  • Review engineering work and provide final mechanical engineering sign-off
  • Support factory builds and resolve mechanical non-conformities
  • Represent TECO-Westinghouse before customers and at technical conferences in support of Sales and Marketing activities
  • Work closely with Engineering, Marketing, Factory Operations, Supply Chain, Service, Accounting, and customers
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies, ISO 9001 standards, safety procedures, and applicable workplace requirements
  • Maintain regular attendance as an essential function of the position
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in Mechanical Engineering, with 5+ years of related work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience in heavy electrical equipment, containers, industrial skids, or similar applications
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD, such as SolidWorks or similar software
  • Strong understanding of structural design, lifting and rigging, and basic thermal analysis
  • Experience with modular power systems or data center infrastructure preferred
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards, including ASCE, AISC, AWS, and ASHRAE, preferred

Professional Engineering License

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas, or the ability to obtain a Texas PE license within 12 months

Preferred Skills

  • Mandarin Chinese proficiency preferred for coordination with overseas engineering teams
  • Experience with modular data center infrastructure

Work Style

This position operates under general supervision and requires a self-starter who can take ownership of projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with domestic and overseas engineering resources while providing technical leadership and final engineering review.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position regularly requires standing, walking, using hands and fingers, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, as well as talking and hearing. The employee may frequently be required to climb or balance and may occasionally be required to sit.

The position may occasionally require lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The work environment includes regular exposure to vibration and frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure may include wet or humid conditions, elevated or precarious locations, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
