Job summary

Google is seeking a Data Center Services Mechanical Engineer to oversee HVAC and distribution systems for on-site data center projects. You will manage design, construction, and commissioning while ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory compliance on busy site environments.

You will collaborate with multiple teams, provide technical guidance to vendors, and drive improvements that enhance efficiency and reliability in mission-critical facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in design, construction, and commissioning of cooling, plumbing or mechanical infrastructure.
  • 5 years working with data center operations and cross-functional project teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams from inception to completion.
  • Collaborate with DCDE core teams on mechanical designs from BOD to IFC for new builds and upgrades.
  • Respond to site RFIs and coordinate with DCDE teams for technical support and issue resolution.
  • Participate in new technology insertions with site-specific requirements during development.
  • Own and manage all site-level mechanical system issues during project execution.

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in design, construction, and commissioning of either chilled water cooling systems, air handling systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing systems, or underground dry/wet utilities.
  • 5 years of experience with electro/mechanical assembly and mechanical testing procedures including resolution and comprehensive documentation maintenance for mechanical designs.
  • 5 years of experience in mission critical facility design, construction environments, and their mechanical infrastructure.
  • 5 years of experience with data center operations and working with mechanical contractors and cross-functional project teams.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or other relevant fields, or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Experience in designing modular building scale assemblies, with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles with a focus in the areas of design for medium-scale production, structural beams/elements, and international building codes.

This involves managing site-level mechanical engineering issues, ensuring compliance with design standards and local regulations, supporting quality assurance, and providing technical guidance to vendor teams.   • Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
  • Collaborate with DCDE core teams to develop, implement, and manage the data center (DC) mechanical designs at site starting from basis of design (BOD) to issued for construction (IFC) data center services documents for new DC projects build outs, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
  • Respond to site specific engineering requests for information (RFI) in coordination with engineer of record (EOR).Manage site bug process and coordinate with DCDE cross functional teams for technical support.
  • Participate in new technology insertions through collaboration with the engineering team to provide site specific requirements during the development of site specific BOD.
  • Own and manage all site level mechanical system issues during the project execution phase.
