Job summary

Google is seeking a Data Center Mechanical Engineer to help shape the physical design of our next-generation data centers and infrastructure. You will tackle cooling, electrical interfaces, and facilities optimization within mission-critical environments.

You will participate in design reviews, support construction and commissioning, and work with Operations to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety across Google’s data center fleet.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of cooling, air handling, fire suppression, plumbing, or underground utilities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in project-specific design reviews at various stages (30%, 60%, 95%), focusing on constructability and value engineering.
  • Provide on-site support to construction teams and contractors, ensuring quality and adherence to standards.
  • Support commissioning of electrical systems to meet performance and operational standards.
  • Identify and resolve electrical engineering issues during construction with cross-functional teams.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for mechanical systems for Data Center Operations during construction and post-occupancy.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction.
  • Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of one of the following chilled water cooling systems, air handling systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing systems, and underground dry / wet utilities.
  • Experience in a mission-critical equipment/environments (e.g., makeup water, WWTP, cooling systems, building controls, etc. ).
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, or general construction safety procedures.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • Experience in estimating, mechanical design, operation, and commissioning of data center mechanical infrastructure.
  • Experience in design, operation, and commissioning of building management and control systems.
  • Prefabrication and modular experience.
  • Knowledge of large-scale mission critical facilities and their electrical and mechanical infrastructure.

US base salary range for this full-time position is $122,000-$174,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
