Job summary

Google is seeking a Data Center Services Mechanical Engineer to oversee HVAC and mechanical distribution design, construction, and commissioning for our rapidly expanding data centers. You will drive compliance, quality, and collaboration across vendor teams and internal stakeholders to ensure safe, timely project delivery.

On-site role requiring coordination with facilities technicians and cross-functional teams; equity and benefits accompany a strong compensation package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or related field.
• 5 years in design, construction and commissioning of cooling, air handling, fire suppression, plumbing or utilities.
• 5 years in electro/mechanical assembly and testing with documentation maintenance for mechanical designs.
• 5 years in mission-critical facility design and mechanical infrastructure.
• 5 years in data center operations and working with mechanical contractors and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams; define mechanical design requirements from inception to completion.
• Collaborate with core teams to develop and manage data center mechanical designs from basis of design to issued for construction.
• Respond to site RFIs with EOR; manage site bug process and coordinate with cross-functional teams for technical support.
• Participate in new technology insertions; develop site-specific requirements for BOD.
• Own and manage all site-level mechanical system issues during project execution.

Job description

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience in design, construction, and commissioning of either chilled water cooling systems, air handling systems, fire suppression systems, plumbing systems, or underground dry/wet utilities.
• 5 years of experience with electro/mechanical assembly and mechanical testing procedures including resolution and comprehensive documentation maintenance for mechanical designs.
• 5 years of experience in mission critical facility design, construction environments, and their mechanical infrastructure.
• 5 years of experience with data center operations and working with mechanical contractors and cross-functional project teams.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or other relevant fields, or a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Experience in designing modular building scale assemblies, with an understanding of mechanical tolerances and tolerance analysis.
• Knowledge of mechanical engineering and design principles with a focus in the areas of design for medium-scale production, structural beams/elements, and international building codes.

As a Data Center Services Mechanical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the field-level implementation and operational support of Google’s rapidly expanding data centers. You will be responsible for overseeing the design, construction, and commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems, ensuring projects are delivered safely, swiftly, and with high quality. This involves managing site-level mechanical engineering issues, ensuring compliance with design standards and local regulations, supporting quality assurance, and providing technical guidance to vendor teams. You will be a strong communicator and collaborator who will grow on construction sites and has experience with mechanical systems, ideally within mission-critical facilities, heavy industrial, oil and gas, or semiconductor industries.

• Provide technical support to data center services and operations teams, defining mechanical system design requirements for multiple data center projects from inception to completion.
• Collaborate with DCDE core teams to develop, implement, and manage the data center (DC) mechanical designs at site starting from basis of design (BOD) to issued for construction (IFC) data center services documents for new DC projects build outs, infrastructure upgrades, and renovations.
• Respond to site specific engineering requests for information (RFI) in coordination with engineer of record (EOR). Manage site bug process and coordinate with DCDE cross functional teams for technical support.
• Participate in new technology insertions through collaboration with the engineering team to provide site specific requirements during the development of site specific BOD.
• Own and manage all site level mechanical system issues during the project execution phase.
