Job summary

Steampunk seeks a seasoned Data Architect to design and develop data models, warehouses, lakes, and lakehouses, along with governance, services, and pipelines. We want a technologist with strong communication and customer-service skills who is passionate about data.

You will lead migrations, document data sources, and craft cloud-based data platforms while supporting an Agile lifecycle and driving the Data Exploitation Practice forward.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years of experience with data model and data warehouse design, including schema design and entity relationship diagrams
• 8-10 years of experience collaborating with management, personas, and engineers to support data quality efforts
• Demonstrated on-the-job experience with large-scale data migration
• Experience designing storage and retrieval solutions for structured and unstructured data to support data science pipelines
• Experience designing data platforms for user consumption
• Experience supporting development of data artifacts (Data Dictionary, ER Diagrams, Data Flow Diagram, Data Quality Plan, Data Management Plan, Data Asset Catalog)
• Experience with SQL and relational databases, query development and optimization; familiarity with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL and others
• Experience programming in Python, R, Scala, or similar language
• Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases
• Experience with lakehouses and medallion architecture
• Familiarity with stream-processing systems (e.g., Storm, Spark-Streaming)
• Familiarity with AWS or Azure cloud technology and managed services (EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift)
• Experience in DevSecOps environments with CI/CD practices
• Developing specifications for modern large-scale data repositories including cloud-based database solutions
• Familiarity with FIPS 140-2 encryption for data at rest and in motion
• Ability to translate customer requirements into technical solutions
• Collaborating with software and data science teams to operationalize information
• Collaborating with stakeholders, IT customers, and contractors at all levels
• Experience leading agile projects
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Responsibilities

• Lead and architect migration of data environments with performance and reliability
• Assess, understand, and document data sources
• Address inquiries concerning customization, integration, enterprise architecture, and data product functionality
• Craft data warehouse solutions in cloud environments (prefer AWS; Azure or GCP acceptable)
• Contribute to growth of the Data Exploitation Practice
• Support an Agile software development lifecycle
