Job description

ParetoHealth is redefining the way employers fund healthcare. As the largest and fastest-growing benefits captive in the United States, we help thousands of small and midsize employers take control of healthcare costs through a smarter, more sustainable model.

Our mission is simple: give small and midsize employers the scale and protection they need to eliminate volatility and lower healthcare costs.

By combining data-driven insights, innovative risk management, and the collective purchasing power of our community, we enable employers to reduce volatility, improve long-term outcomes, and reinvest savings into their businesses and their people.

Headquartered in Philadelphia, ParetoHealth is growing rapidly and transforming one of the country's largest industries. Our success is fueled by talented people who are united by our four core values: Fire in the Belly, For the Greater Good, See the Field, and Get It Done Right. These values shape how we innovate, collaborate, make decisions, and deliver exceptional results for our clients and one another.

If you're energized by solving complex challenges, thrive in a high-growth environment, and want to help reshape the future of healthcare, we'd love to meet you.

Please note that ParetoHealth does not provide employment visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship both now or in the future.

About The Team:

At ParetoHealth, the Analytics team sits at the intersection of healthcare data, business strategy, and decision-making. We work with rich medical, pharmacy, stoploss, and business datasets to generate insights that directly influence product strategy, client outcomes, underwriting, and internal operations. The team partners closely with a varied set of stakeholders to move from questions to action, promoting data-driven decision making across the organization. We do this within a team culture of collaboration, shared responsibility, mutual respect, and growth.

Position Summary:

This role is designed for a senior, analytically sophisticated individual contributor who feels most at home in the space between data science and traditional BI analytics.

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will partner closely with other Analysts, Data Scientists and cross-functional stakeholders to tackle complex, ambiguous analytical problems, focusing on the operationalization and maintenance of solutions. You will contribute to and sometimes lead analyses end-to-end, with a focus on long-term sustainability and enterprise-wide utilization of solutions.

This role is not focused on building predictive models or machine learning systems for production, and it does not include people management responsibilities. Success in this role comes from analytic rigor, a deep interest in efficiency and standardization, and the ability to turn complex data into decisions.

You will report to the VP of Analytics.

Key Responsbilities:
  • Lead Delivery of Analytic Insights
    • Partner with Analysts/Data Scientists to understand business priorities and translate them into analytical approaches
    • Design, test, and refine appropriate methodologies for complex analytical questions with an eye toward long term sustainability
    • Work directly with large, messy healthcare datasets, including medical and pharmacy claims
    • Build and maintain robust SQL queries and analytical datasets
  • Develop and support clear visualizations and summaries that communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Translate complex analyses into actionable recommendations, with support from Lead Analysts
  • Document methodologies, assumptions, and limitations to ensure transparency and repeatability
  • Collaborate Within the Team
    • Work closely with Data Scientists and other Analysts to support exploratory analyses, hypothesis generation, and interpretation of results
    • Partner with Analytics teammates to align definitions, methodologies, and data quality standards
    • Contribute through collaboration and shared problem-solving
  • Drive Business Impact
    • Lead stakeholder-identified opportunities where analytics can improve business outcomes
    • Support teams across the organization, including underwriting, product, account management, and cost containment
What We’re Looking For:
  • A problem-solver with a natural sense of curiosity, analytic rigor, and a deep interest in understanding complex healthcare data
  • An adaptable utility player who can flex across operationalization, analysis, visualization, QA, and documentation as needs evolve
  • A collaborator with proven ability to work cross-functionally across many different stakeholders to create and deliver insights
  • A strong communicator who effectively shares information at the appropriate level across a wide variety of audiences
  • A self-starter with a demonstrated track record of owning projects from idea to execution
  • A critical thinker with demonstrated ability to be creative, strategic, and to apply strong business judgement
  • A translator who can turn complex analysis into actionable insights and recommendations for the business

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5-8+ years’ experience in a healthcare-based analytics role, preferably in the health benefits space/insurance industry, with a solid understanding of the US-based health insurance system
  • Extensive hands-on experience working with administrative healthcare data (medical and pharmacy claims)
  • Strong mathematical and statistical foundations, including familiarity with quantitative reasoning, distributions, rates, and variability as applied to real-world healthcare data
  • Strong SQL skills, including building, optimizing, and validating complex analytical queries
  • Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau
  • Significant experience using programming languages, such as Python, for analysis and data wrangling
  • Significant experience in data cleaning, validation, and exploratory analysis using large, complex datasets
  • Understanding of analytical concepts, including descriptive statistics, cohort analysis, risk assessment, trend analysis, and causal thinking
  • Strong analytic judgment: knowing which method to use, why, and when
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative/analytic field, Master’s (or equivalent work experience) preferred

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of Python (advanced modeling not required)
  • Experience analyzing Salesforce data, healthcare vendor-reported utilization and savings data, and/or stop loss insurance data
  • Familiarity with underwriting and actuarial risk assessments for healthcare insurance coverage
  • Familiarity with AWS Serverless Services and data tools, such as S3, Lambda, Glue, Sagemaker and EMR
  • Fully paid medical, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Flexible PTO
  • 401k company contribution
  • Professional development allowance
  • Transportation allowance and daily parking reimbursement
  • Engaging hybrid work environment
