Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a Clinical Cytogenetics Laboratory Scientist to perform chromosome preparation, banding, cell culture, and FISH analysis in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The role includes QC oversight, proficiency testing, and participation in accreditation processes, under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager.

The candidate will report results within licensure scope, require strong English communication, and demonstrate the ability to handle sensitive

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of laboratory experience in both karyotype and FISH study.
  • Must hold a California Cytogenetics CLS License.
  • Excellent English communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team, handling highly sensitive matters.
  • Knowledge of QA concepts and ability to apply them to design quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chromosome preparation, various banding methods and cell culture for all cell types.
  • Perform chromosome and FISH analysis by microscopy for aberrations.
  • Troubleshoot instrument function and participate in quality assurance procedures.
  • Oversee proficiency testing and contribute to lab accreditation processes.
  • Assess daily workload and balance assignments across the cytogenetics section.
