Job summary

The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist to perform routine and complex clinical laboratory tests, prepare reagents and stains, and maintain lab equipment. The role reports to the Lead Clinical Lab Scientist or Supervisor and may support both clinical and research lab work.

Prerequisites include a Bachelor's degree in a related field, 2 years of lab experience, and ASCP Cytogenetics certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, or related field.
• Must have 2 years of related laboratory experience with clinical tests.
• ASCP certification for Cytogenetics (CG(ASCP)).

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures.
• Prepares and determines suitability of solutions, reagents and stains, following defined formulas and procedures.
• Maintains and troubleshoots equipment by making routine repairs or notifying appropriate contacts when more complex problems occur.
• May support both clinical and research aspects of the laboratory.
• Performs related general duties such as ordering supplies, lab housekeeping, and maintaining safety records.
• Requires a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially where results are abnormal or atypical.
