Job summary

Sheppard Pratt is seeking a senior cybersecurity engineer to lead the engineering, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of our security toolset centered on Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, and Purview. The role translates the three-year roadmap into practical technical solutions and drives automations, detections, and response playbooks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or related field or equivalent training/certification.
• 7+ years in cybersecurity engineering or security architecture roles.
• Hands-on with Microsoft Defender, Sentinel, and Purview in hybrid environments.
• Experience securing on-prem AD and cloud identity (Azure AD/Entra ID).
• Strong understanding of endpoint protection, logging, monitoring, and incident response.
• PowerShell and scripting (Python, KQL) for security operations.
• Familiarity with NIST/CIS/ISO 27001 and translating frameworks into controls.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of the security toolset (Defender, Sentinel, Purview).
• Translate strategic cybersecurity goals into actionable technical solutions.
• Design and maintain security automations, detections, and playbooks.
• Develop and document standards and architectures guiding IT Infrastructure, Operations, and Apps teams.
• Serve as SME for Microsoft security controls in a hybrid AD and Azure environment.
• Collaborate with IT teams to embed security into designs, migrations, and processes.
• Evaluate tooling against best practices and evolving threats; support incident response with RCA.
• Maintain documentation and mentor cybersecurity team members.
