Job summary

LMI Government Consulting is seeking a Cyber Systems Engineer/AI Governance Lead/Solutions Architect for VA modernization, combining enterprise architecture with governance leadership. The role involves translating federal expectations into practical design criteria, controls, and escalation paths, influencing decisions early rather than after design is complete.

The ideal candidate will move between executive tradeoffs and detailed technical questions, manage AI/governance risk, and guide teams

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field.
10+ years of progressive architecture, governance, or modernization work.
Demonstrated depth across apps, data, cloud, identity, and security.
Experience operationalizing governance through risk tiers and controls.
Strong AI/ML, responsible-AI, transparency, and privacy knowledge.
Ability to translate policy and standards into technical controls.
Experience with cloud/SaaS/low-code options for enterprise fit.
Federal/regulatory environment experience impacts design.
Excellent executive and technical communication skills.
TOGAF or cloud architecture certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead independent solution-architecture and AI/governance reviews for VA modernization.
Evaluate enterprise fit, reuse, integration, and lifecycle cost.
Define governance criteria proportional to use, data sensitivity, and impact.
Translate policy and privacy requirements into architecture criteria and controls.
Review high-risk AI/data/clinical workflows for additional validation or escalation.
Shape major tradeoffs across applications, data, cloud, and identity.
Define non-functional requirements: interoperability, protection, logging, observability.
Maintain architecture decision records and governance artifacts for traceability.
Develop reusable reference architectures and patterns for VA initiatives.
Facilitate reviews that yield clear decisions, owners, and actions.
Collaborate with cybersecurity, data, clinicians, and program leadership to resolve constraints.
Assess technical debt, vendor lock-in, and post-deployment monitoring before major decisions.
