Job description

Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for Cyber Security Expert to support the Department of Veterans Affairs GIS Team. This position will be fully remote located within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and provide consultative support on the VA on matters related to system security assessment and authorization, and Authorization to Operate (ATO).

  • Coordinate and lead security and privacy activities within project teams and develop security and privacy related artifacts.

  • Review and identified system/applications security controls in accordance with NIST SP-800 53, CNSSI 1253, and VA Handbook 6500.

  • Perform cyber security and information system risk analysis, vulnerability assessment, and regulatory compliance assessment and gap analysis on existing systems and systems in development.

  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience working with Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) NIST-800-53and CNSSI 1253.

  • Responsible for on time deliverables of assigned and related security and privacy artifacts.

  • Must be able to identify and mitigate risks to the program.

  • Demonstrated experience in a remote work environment.

  • Ability to proactively communicate and coordinate with various internal and external project stakeholders, depending on needs.

  • Identifying and communicate symptoms for process improvement.

  • Analytical and investigation skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and supervision

  • Experience with the Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS).

  • Ability to translate a NIST control or similar security language to appropriate operating system restriction or action.

  • Support some system administration duties as necessary

Qualifications

Required Required Skills and Experience

  • Education Requirements: Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific/technical discipline is required.

  • 8 years of experience.

  • 4 years of additional relevant experience my be substituted for education.

  • CISSP or equivalent IT security certification. The ideal candidate will have a mix of IT security and systems engineering certifications.

  • An Expert Cyber Security Analyst has extensive IT experience with Cyber Security Policy and threat mitigation. Must be well versed in Cyber Security Tools, network topologies, intrusion detection, PKI, and secured networks. Analyst must posses a high level of expertise in developing long term strategies and be knowledgeable about various cyber threats and there mitigation.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience achieving Authorization To Operate (ATO) for projects within the VA or other federal agencies.

  • Understanding of basic systems engineering principles, including some Windows, Linux, and cloud technologies.

  • Experience with the Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS)

  • Windows System Administration

Clearance: Must be able to obtain/maintain VA Suitability/Public Trust clearance.

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Posted Salary Range

USD $125,000.00 - USD $150,000.00 /Yr.
