Job summary

Markel Group, a Fortune 500 company with a global footprint, is seeking an experienced underwriter in the United States to advance profitability across Cyber/IT & Misc E&O lines. The role focuses on underwriting new business, renewals, and coaching junior staff while collaborating with regional managers and product leaders.

The position requires strong analytical skills, solid communication, and the ability to travel up to 25%.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years current complex underwriting expertise preferred.
• Demonstrated technical knowledge and progression in roles of increasing responsibility.
• Proven experience in wholesale and retail channels.
• Demonstrated marketing and relationship-building skills.
• Four-year college degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Team player in a flexible, spontaneous business environment.

Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, accept, and decline wholesale and retail Cyber/IT & Misc E&O risks for profitability.
• Underwrite and select new business that will produce an underwriting profit.
• Manage the renewal book and implement corrective measures to meet profitability.
• Communicate with regional managers and product line leaders on accounts and producers.
• Participate in audits or underwriting meetings as required.
• Build and maintain relationships with key producers while monitoring profitability.
• Review competitor forms and pricing to market the Markel product effectively.
• Provide training or technical assistance to underwriting staff.
