Job summary

Kanawha County Public Schools seeks custodial staff to maintain school facilities. Positions include Custodian I/III/IV with 261-day terms and assignments from early morning to early afternoon shifts. Pay grade is determined by experience under WV Code and school salary scales.

Responsibilities include cleaning, floor care, basic repairs, safety compliance, and occasional supervision of other staff. Full-time, on-site work with potential for summer roving duties in feeder areas of high schools.

Qualifications

• Ability to present information clearly to administrators, staff, and the public.
• Ability to perform basic math for supplies, scheduling, and time management.
• Ability to follow safety rules and wear PPE as required.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet performance standards.

Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain buildings and grounds, keep areas free of refuse.
• Clean classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas; manage trash and dust.
• Scrub, mop, disinfect, and polish floors in various spaces as required.
• Report vandalism or issues to supervisor; ensure doors and lights are secure.
• Operate heating/cooling systems and assist in minor repairs as needed.
• Supervise other custodians (Custodian IV duties) when assigned.
• Move furniture for events; participate in special project work.
