Job summary

UCLA is seeking a Custodian for evening shifts to support custodial services across campus facilities, including vivarium, laboratories, and patient care areas.

Responsibilities include maintaining high standards of cleaning, following safety procedures, and coordinating with Leads and supervisors. Six months of custodial experience is preferred; strong English reading and writing skills are required. Availability for overtime and weekend work is expected.

Qualifications

• Six months of custodial experience preferred.
• Knowledge of custodial cleaning and general maintenance duties.
• Knowledge of equipment used by custodial staff.
• Ability to use floor care machines (stripping, waxing, etc.).
• Ability to maintain high quality custodial services per standards.
• Clear and grammatically correct English communication.
• Ability to work overtime and weekends.
• Ability to work various shifts.
• Ability to establish cooperative relationships.

Salary & Compensation

• UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

• Custodial Experience Six months of previous custodial experience. (Preferred)
• Equipment Working knowledge of all aspects of custodial cleaning and/or general maintenance duties and services. (Required)
• Equipment Working knowledge of equipment utilized by custodial staff, e.g. vacuum cleaner and various mopping, sweeping, dusting tools. (Required)
• Equipment Working knowledge of proper use of various floor care machines utilized by custodial staff, e.g. stripping machine, waxer/buffer, water pick-ups, etc. (Preferred)
• 1) Ability to maintain highest quality of custodial services at level consistent with University and department standards. (Required)
• 2) Oral communications skills in English to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information (Required)
• 3) Skill in reading standard English text in order to follow through on written orders, read labels on cleaning products, or instructions on equipment, and carry out assignments in a safe manner. (Required)
• 4) Skill in writing simple English words and phrases using correct grammar and spelling to complete notes to Leads/Supervisors that are easy to comprehend. (Required)
• 5) Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. (Required)
• 6) Working knowledge of standard safe work practices, procedures, and methodologies. (Required)
• 7) Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position and maintain good attendance. (Required)
• 8) Ability to work overtime and weekends. (Required)
• 9) Ability to work various shifts. (Required)
• 10) Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrator, customers and visitors. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

• High School (Preferred)
• Possession of a Valid California Driver's License if required to operate a University vehicle. 100 (Preferred)

Special Conditions for Employment

• Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
• Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
• Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.
• Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.

Evenings: 5:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m. Mon-Fri (primary), Wed-Sun 3:00p.m –11:30p ; limited AM availability
