Description

The Senior Curriculum Coordinator assists the Principal in the educational leadership and administration of the School. Along with the Principal, s/he is responsible for the health and safety of the children, families, and staff who work there, regulatory compliance, fiscal management, and ensuring that the learning environment meets and exceeds the standards established by Birch Services. As directed by the Principal, s/he may communicate with students, staff, families, Birch Administrative Office staff, the New York State Education Department, the New York City Department of Education, and other agencies. She assumes responsibility as determined by the Principal for facilities management, curriculum development, program evaluation and design, site financial and personnel management, and emergency procedures.

Essential Functions

• Establish and promote high standards and expectations for students and staff for academic and professional performance.
• Facilitate, evaluate, and supervise effective procedures for school operation, aligned with NYSED, NYC DOE, and Birch policies.
• Assist in school planning to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and activities.
• Ensure curriculum and instructional approaches align with NYSED and Birch Core Curricula.
• Develop and implement administrative tools such as master calendars and communication systems.
• Work with staff to ensure instructional programs address students' needs and developmental levels, encouraging critical thinking and independence.
• Ensure staff compliance with federal, NYSED, NYC DOE regulations, and contractual obligations.
• Ensure programming meets NYS Learning Standards and assessment mandates.
• Implement policies for student needs and IEP mandates, suggesting improvements.
• Maintain open communication with families and staff.
• Address emergencies, substance abuse, child abuse, medical conditions, and safety threats.
• Supervise staff to meet job responsibilities.

Education

• Master’s Degree in Education & NYS certification in Special Education
• Prior preschool and/or school-age teaching experience; 3-5 years of administrative experience; SAS/SBL or SDA required.
